Gate River Run 2009, Saturday, March 14- Eventual winners of the 2009 Gate River Run 15K Anthony Famiglietti (red top, white sunglasses) and Amy Yoder-Begley (green top) just moments before their starts.
Famiglietti won this year just barely after Tim Nelson made a last surge to the finish and momentarily took the lead. "Fam" hammered back within the last few meters for the win by one second in 43:36. It was the closest finish in GRR history. Last year's winner, Andrew Carlson, ran a second faster this year, but still finished ninth.
Yoder-Begley won with a time of 49:51 edging out Katie McGregor by six seconds. This is the second year in a row that McGregor has finished second. Last year's winner, undisputed Queen of the Course, Olympian, six time GRR winner (of the last nine) and American and GRR course record holder, Deena Kastor was unable to run because of an injury.
